Colton High School, Colton Oregon. Rod Karch is the science teacher and Director of horticulture with emphasis in developmental research on Certificates of Initial and Advanced Mastery programs for the State of Oregon. (Contact Rod here: karchr@clackesd.k12.or.us) Rod has worked closely with American Agriculture to build a Hydroponic classroom/business in which lettuce and greens are grown and sold to local stores. The whole school takes part in the project. Logos and designs were given to the Art Department, money and business plans were given to the Business Department, literature was given to the English Department, structures and inventory stands were the job of the Metal and Wood Works Department. American Agriculture was presented the Most Valuable Partner Award from the Business Education Compact for their part in an active involvement within Oregon Schools. A picture is shown of a salad served at the Award ceremony prepared by the Hilton Hotel of Portland Oregon using greens produced by Colton High School. Click here for pictures of this project
